Drawing prompts

I've collected the following drawing prompts from various sources, and just printed them out on tiny stickers ... so I can randomly add them to my sketchbook when I need inspiration!

These are from the OCA forum
  • Never take the implement off the page
  • Look hard for ten minutes at the subject and then drawit entirely from memory
  • pin a large sheet of paper to the wall and place your nose on the paper
  • Make a drawing without losing contact with the wall
  • Put a felt tip on the end of a bamboo stick and draw a large picture from about four feet awayPin a sheet of paper to a rough surface and make a drawing
  • Cut sheets of paper into strange shapes and then make drawings on them
  • Make lots of 'five second' drawings, then lots of 'ten second' ones, then lots of 'twenty second' ones and so on
  • Make rubbings of surfaces and then cut the paper up and collage the shapes to make a drawing
  • Roll a dice to make decisions about paper, tool, subject. Stick to the result
  • Listen to a piece of music and draw itBlindfold yourself and draw from memory
  • Use your wrong hand and persist with it
  • Take out some old drawings and trace them
  • Put carbon paper and another sheet of cartridge under your paper when making a biro drawing

  • Eschew the rectangle!Cover the sheet with graphite and only draw with erasers
  • Make the same drawing ten times
  • Make a still life arrangement and then describe it in words without making a drawingGo through old sketchbooks and reframe old drawings with strips of white paper. Photograph the results
  • Cover a sheet of paper with coloured pencil, cover that with black oil pastel or wax crayon and then draw with a stylus, like when you were a kid
  • Describe the movement of a dancer without drawing the body
  • Watch a favorite film and draw it on one sheet of paper as you're watching it. Include text.Use three lines onlyUse circles asframing devices

  • weaving together a number of old drawings to make something new
  • have an online 'drawathon' - I don't knowwhat that is so just make it up as you go
  • Make a drawing on tracing paper, make another, make another. Exhibit them on top of each other.
  • Wear gloves
  • Pin the paper on the wall either too low or too high
  • Use a thick marker on a small sheet
  • Bunch six pencils together (different colours?) with an elastic band
  • Combine three of these strategies into one drawing
  • Tear up an old drawing and collage the pieces into a new one
  • Draw the mirror-image of an object without using a mirror
  • Draw the door of your childhood home from memory
  • Trace a film still
  • Use the newspaper as a sketchbook
  • Draw with a Tipp-ex pen
  • Use sandpaper
  • Erase a pencil drawing completely (see Rauschenberg's Erased De Kooning)Hold the pencil is a clenched fist
  • Mimic a style
  • Draw a messy room, but tidy it up in the drawing (that is, purify it ;-))
  • Make three drawings of the same image: one line, one tone, one with both. Collage
  • the results to make one piece.
  • Move the paper over a stationary pencil or marker pen.
  • Guess.
  • Stand up and walk around a still life, drawing all the time.
  • Make one drawing of an exterior. Go inside and draw an interior over it.
